A LATE 18TH CENTURY/EARLY 19TH CENTURY IRISH FIGURED MAHOGANY AND BRASS BOUND DECANTER BOX, label for Geo. Austin, Cabinet Maker, 7 St. Andrew Street, Dublin, of square outline, fitted with two glass bottles and compartment with sliding lid, 22cm high x 20cm wide s 18cm deep

More Information

The button handle is bone. The box is lined with silvered paper but has no divider. There's no sign of it ever having a divider. The brass escutcheon is missing and there are cracks in the veneer running from the keyhole panel. Right hand side of the lid at the front corner there is small pieces of veneer loss. The lid has two fine horizontal cracks left to right. The interior of the lid has a length of wood where the hinges sit, this has been cracked, off and re-applied. The bottles are not identical, one has slice cut around the neck and faceted stopper. Overall impression - a little tired but original.
