A MID TO LATE 19TH CENTURY ARTIST'S OAK STUDIO EASEL by Lechetier Barbe & Co, turned oak and cast iron winding crank, cast iron crown wheel and pinion, level adjustment key on lower strut, on original cast iron castors. Maker's original black and gilt paper label,
68cm wide x 73 cm deep maximum
(will accommodate canvas ranging from 23.5cm to 127.5cm)

Provenance: The studio easel was the property of Hugh Richard Hosking, known as Dick Hosking (1904-91). Dick trained as a mural painter at the Royal Collge of Art (1924-8) and was Principal of Coventry College of Art (1948-64). Examples of his work can be found in the Leamington Museum and Art Gallery and some public commissions are still in situ. The family of Dick Hoskins believe the easel was originally from the studio of Augustus John, as Dick was a close friend.
