A good Victorian gentleman’s woven silk waistcoat, a soft plum woven with a floral design in navy blue, front buttoning (present)lined, rounded lapels, hand stitched, in a dark cream cotton, two front pockets, the back in plum silk, and laced, metal eyelets, approx. 42 cm across the chest under the arms ; together with a fine example of an 18th century gentleman’s frilled shirt, cream linen, fold-over stand-up collar, pleated front with the addition of a fine cotton frill, dropped shoulders, cuffs, gathered rear yoke, very wide (2) (Shipping category D)
The waistcoat underarms are very slightly discoloured but the silk remains strong. The shirt has several areas of damage: to the front frill, wear under the collar on the shirt itself, cuff edges, centrally above the rear hem, plus extensive storage and other soiling.
