A Japanese war fan, with central feature, the hinomaru, or sun-disk shown in red on a gold-leaf ground on one side, and in gold on a red ground on the other, usually carried by warriors in battle as the striking design stands out, for use in signalling, the double paper leaf mounted on black lacquered wood, with the addition of a gilded motif to the top of each guard, guard length approx. 33 cm (Shipping category C)
The monture is sound. The leaf is completely split on a central fold and needs restauration on others.
